So you’re hosting a party for one of your little ones and you’re a little worried about what do to after the cake and ice cream… I get it. Let’s face it, a room full of sugared up kids is kinda scary. Well, I’ve got a solution for you: Host a birthday scavenger hunt! Not only will it get the kids up and moving, it will help create some great memories that you and your kids can keep forever. Here’s what you need to get started with planning your birthday scavenger hunt:
First, you’ll need a blank grid that is age appropriate (you can make this in Word or Powerpoint. I’d suggest a 9X9 for older kids, 3×3 for 4-5 year olds)
Secondly, you’ll need a word bank to fill in your blank grid! This is where you get to customize things. Either choose things that will document the big day, or things that will help to center on the kids at the party. Here are some suggestions:
- A half eaten piece of birthday cake
- A guest with icing on their nose
- A balloon being popped
- A house made of wrapping paper
- A guest laughing
- A silly group picture (the sillier the better!)
- A candid shot of the Birthday Person (without them knowing)
- The most guests in a photo
Lastly, you’ll need some awesome polaroid cameras for your guests! The greatest thing about polaroids is that they give you instant photos so everyone can see, and they will make great mementos for your guests and your little ones. This one even comes with some awesome accessories!
This is another great option that’s a little less expensive (which means it’s probably better for younger kids!).
And don’t forget: this is the classic Polaroid. It’s not the same as the one from my youth, but it’s pretty close!
Lastly, just set a time limit for your scavenger hunt along with some basic ground rules: Be nice, don’t make a mess, etc. and let the kids have fun!
