Tubing Traditions For Winter

Brooklyn Leave a Comment

So the snow has fallen and the kids are restless. Let’s not joke, we’re all restless! So, what are you going to do about it? I’d suggest taking the family and friends tubing! Not only is it a great time, but it’s a great way to get outside and get rid of the stir crazies. Check out these awesome winter tubing ideas!

Step 1: Research the best places to go. This should be pretty easy because hopefully you know the schools and parks around you. If you don’t have any schools or parks with decent hills, I’d recommend looking at the National Parks. In Utah, we’ve got a plethora of places that will be awesome for tubing and sledding. If you’re in Utah, here is a link to some fabulous places to go sledding and tubing. In general, you’re looking for something with a decent hill (the steeper, the faster you’ll go in general) and public access. Stay off private lands so you don’t get into trouble. You also want to make sure that your track is clear of trees or concrete. There’s nothing that will put a damper on a party like broken bones or shredded clothes.

Step 2: Plan, plan, plan! You need to make sure that you’re ready and a large part of that is planning first. Make sure you have the right winter clothing (layers are a must), and sledding or tubing essentials. Here is a great tubing starter kit. If you’re looking for something more deluxe, then this is right up your alley. Or you can go completely low key and use anything from garbage bags to old air mattresses. As long as it has a solid bottom, it should slide pretty good! I’d also suggest helmets for the littles so that you’re keeping safety in mind.

Step 3: Bring the drinks and treat! Pack some hot chocolate or hot apple cider in a thermos (like this one) and bring something hot to eat, after all sledding takes a lot of energy. This is guaranteed to keep things nice and toasty.

Step 4: Pile in and have fun! Head out as a family and enjoy the winter air!

Happy Winter!
