Decorating doesn’t have to be an expensive, involved affair. My kids think they’re decorating when they tape their handprints to the wall, for Pete’s sake.
If only they’d make a few heart-shaped ones, we might be covered for Valentine’s Day.
Since that’s not likely to happen in an actually-decorative way, we’re going to head over to Dollar Tree.
Yes -the dollar store. Yes, you can get some decent items there for V Day Décor.
Do you need a wreath for your door, wall, or business suit accessory? Rag-tied items are always a great shabby-chic, bohemian craft.
Everything you need is at the store, too: styrofoam wreath frame, floral wire, and rags. You might even have rags already.
Speaking of pieces of fabric, do you have any scraps that look Valentine-y? You could use discount Christmas bits; because red.
After picking up your dollar dish towels, prepare yourself for a bit of sewing.
Using a zig-zag stitch on a machine, or a whip stitch on a human, attach a square or heart to the center of each towel.
Cute, right?
I love the pink and red and purple hearts of V Day. Really. However, all that can be a bit overwhelming.
In fact, some people take things a bit too much, and the look gets garish.
So, I’d like you to take a namaste here and appreciate the simple glitteriness of this candle idea. Using a common fake-snow technique; they’ve been rolled in Mod Podge, epsom salt, and glitter.
I like simple, but also eclectic. I’d say a few gold or silver mix-ins help with that look.
I meant this look, in the picture. Can you see the gold heart?
It’s not really metal.
Do you want one? Go pick up a few plastic (yes, plastic!) hearts from Dollar Tree and SPRAY PAINT them gold.
You might be assuming we’re stuck with bright plastic materials on this budget.
O, ye of little faith: the dollar store has many aisles -including greeting cards.
And, yes, they have some vintage sorts that you can use for crafting.
May I recommend a banner? Intersperse some hearts in your favorite color and paper for that Valentine’s feel.
Don’t you love this place setting? It’s LOVEly.
The cups, plate, bowl, napkin, and tie are all dollar store finds. The other things (besides the utensils) are Goodwill, Big Lots, and closeout items.
If you’ve got a dollar store and a bit of pink paint, you’ve got the means to pull this off.
My favorite idea on here is this wreath. As you can tell from its label, the magic lies in CUPCAKE LINERS.
What are you waiting for? Wrap up a wreath frame with ribbon, then flower it up with your liners today.
All you need is a glue gun; that wonderful, miraculous tool.
Dig this. It’s called a Springy Pom Pom Heart.
If you didn’t love it from the title, you definitely need to make one. I mean, you clearly need a little more springy pom pomness in your life.
It’s a simple mix of floral wire, and pom poms or cotton balls.
If that cupcake liner wreath was my favorite, this cake stand gets the award for second-most-creative.
The top part is a wooden disk from the craft store, but you could also spray up a plate. Pick one up while you’re purchasing the glass candle holder for the base.
The rest is up to your spray-painting abilities, plus some industrial-strength adhesive.
If you know how to work a sewing machine, you are a few short steps away from myriad crafting ideas.
Like, these little heart pillows. They’re various fabric remnants, stitched and stuffed.
Make a whole bunch, then drop them all over your house. If you’ve got kids, they’ll love helping you “decorate.”
