12 Heart-Shaped Crafts for Valentine’s Day

December 28, 2017 by Brooklyn Leave a Comment

It’s Valentine’s Day. That means a lot of love, a lot of hearts.

Most Valentine’s Day crafts use hearts, right? We’re not here to argue that point at all.

I’m here to show you some really awesome options using that iconic, easy-to-cut-out shape.

So flap with me to Michael‘s for pink, red, purple, and white paper. While you’re there, grab pipe cleaners, googly eyes, clothespins, and red paint.

Phew! Now we’re ready for some high-class butterfly crafting.

You remembered the glue, didn’t you?

Paper butterflies are too easy for you, you say?

Well, are you looking for something super chic using your leftover pallet wood?

I love so many things about this heart: the faded paint, the writing, the old hinge. You’ll love assembling it, and impress visitors once it’s done.

Rawr! I’m not “lion” -it’s another paper animal.

You’ve got to entertain the kids somehow while you’re sawing pallet boards.

That, and I really like this cute guy. I also liked the fringe touches to his sides that make him look all hairy.

Have you thought about leather-crafting? It comes in fancy colors, you know.

And -yes, we’ve got a heart option using leather.

Once you weave a few of these together, you’ll want to make pouches for all your friends.

I have to say, these concrete heart candles are one of my twelve favorite ideas on this page.

I would have never thought to use a silicon heart mold that way, but Wow! They look fantastic!

Thanks to the magic of quick dry cement, some copper spray paint, and tea lights; these can be finished in less than half an hour.

You thought we were done with animals, didn’t you? Well, you didn’t count on my love of penguins.

He’s pasted together with black, white, pink (or red), and orange (or yellow) paper.

Fairly straightforward -try cutting out all the shapes beforehand if you’re having a young kid “make” him.

While the youngsters are penguining, you’re going to clear out the flowers bin at Dollar Tree for this masterpiece.

It’s a whole bunch of fake roses hot-glued onto a styrofoam heart. The arrows are cardboard with glitter paper glued on.

If you’re not going to make one, I will.

My kids have a bad habit of using up all the twist-ties at grocery stores. Their latest thing has been making rings out of them.

I’m not saying green twist-tie rings aren’t neat, but I’m thinking that Valentine’s pipe cleaners ones might look a bit fancier.

It’s a quick craft; and will probably lead to them getting caught up trying other shapes, too.

Whoa -wait. Don’t scroll past a UNICORN. They’re probably the most popular mythical creature among children, especially girls.

And this handsome, magical, craftable equine is made with foam.

You may note that he has a yarn-based mane, as well.

After that hanging flowers heart, I couldn’t help but wonder if there was a Valentine’s Day wreath out there.

I’m happy to say that I found one. And, it comes with instructions for completely doing it yourself.

The secret is a metal hanger, pipe insulation, and duct tape.

After that, you’ll be gluing homemade pom poms all over it. Easy, right?

I’ve got kids who love to get messy, especially with paint. You may think all kids are like that, but I’ve babysat some picky ones.

We’re also googly eye fans. I’ve got a full-on drawer full.

If you’ve got all that, plus paper and marker, you’re set to make handprint love bugs, too.

Last and coolest (because it’s an insulator) is this heart-shaped oven mitt.

Since they’re rather small, this is a good sewing project to try with leftover scraps. You can even make each piece a different fabric and call it bohemian.

Other supplies include extra wide double fold bias tape, and thermal interfacing. Oh, and a sewing machine.
