Before you knew it, your sweet little boy is turning one whole year old!
Where did the time go? What presents can you get your sweet baby? Whom will you invite?
Most importantly, what theme will you pick and how will you decorate and bake for it?
You’ve got some searching to do.
Moms are crazy busy, so we’ve got you covered. Check out these 12 ideas to get you and your darling boy the best birthday party ever!
This is the most adorable picture I have ever seen today!
I want to have a one-year-old again just to pose him for birthday photos like this! Maybe I can find someone else’s toddler and still pull it off.
If you’re thinking you want to go Where the Wild Things Are, consider a photo shoot in the forest.
Really, though, it’s that pajama outfit with the tail, buttons, and hat that will make your Max such a perfect wild thing! Put that together, and you’ve got the most adorable thing of all for your pictures.
I have boys, and they have each liked different things.
However, the one who liked vehicles REALLY liked them. I had to make all kinds of under-the-table mommy deals to stop that boy from sleeping with his digger.
I will totally be making this cake from Design Fabulous for his next birthday, because he still wants to sleep with construction vehicles. Also, I love cakes that are simple like this.
Just bake a cake and frost it with brown frosting (you know, for dirt). Grab one of your kid’s or neighbor kid’s dump trucks (with permission), and stick on some chocolate candy dumping down the side.
If it doesn’t stay stuck to the side, that dumper just did a great job dropping it all. Who cares? It’s chocolate.
Let’s say you’re doing a Where the Wild Things Are party, or a monster theme, or a Halloween idea.
Or, let’s just say these are one of the cutest ideas I’ve seen for invitations so you’re going to do them anyway. Why not?
Who doesn’t fondly remember ball pits from childhood?
I was so stoked to see these balls for sale in stores. Seeing those round, plastic bits of nostalgia, I immediately imagined buying about 50 bags and filling my basement with them.
I like One Stop Party‘s idea is even better, because it is much less expensive and much more contained. It’s like a pool party without that messy water stuff, and the kids will still love it.

Be sure to use a small bunch of balloons with a fairly sturdy basket, and you’ll avoid any sort of real-life Up scenarios.
My mom always tied a balloon or streamers on our kitchen chair for our birthdays.
Remembering that, I thought, How could I do this when my son needs to stay in a high chair?
Guess what?! You can decorate the high chair!
There are some great ideas of arrangements over at The Little Umbrella, including banners, balloons, bibs, hats, and place settings.
Most first birthdays involve a smash cake: one personal cake for the party’s V.I.P.
Especially if you’re feeling overwhelmed with all the preparations, a simple design that still looks sweet and creative is perfect.
It’s going to be smashed in about three seconds anyway, and everyone loves sprinkles.
Still fishing around for party theme ideas?
How about princesses –okay, this picture is really about fishing.
And, you’ve got an easy pun here: The Big One.
You know, because he’s one year old? Okay, okay, I knew you got it. I just really like puns. And it’s a cute fish and bobber banner.
What better way to remind people whose birthday it is and how old he is?
You probably don’t need to make a 1 quite this large, just be certain it’s not going to fall over on anyone. Then, go collage crazy with your precious son’s first year of pictures.
We’ve got some décor, food, photos, and a theme. Now, how about your boy’s ensemble?
There are some cute ideas out there, including this Onesie outfit available on Etsy. Don’t want to buy one? I’ve heard vinyl lettering works.
That giant number one collage was a bit intimidating for me, so I really liked this month-by-month birthday banner instead.
Run through your phone, computer, or parents’ files for a shot that looks like it came from each month. Print them, string them all together with their titles, and voilà!
At the end here, I’d like to leave you with a final photo shoot idea: The Birthday Suit.
Happy Birthday, little guy.
