It’s almost time for Dad Day! This is one of my favorite holidays to celebrate, but not to get presents for. Here are 10 cheap and easy DIY Father’s Day gift ideas!
As I mentioned for Mother’s Day, we children always had to give our parents homemade presents on these commercially-endorsed holidays.
So many years, I had no clue what to make! Let’s just say that my dad got a lot of homemade cards and love coupons.
Well, Internet has saved the day again. I’ve found TEN Father’s Day presents, and they’re DIY gift ideas.

No, this is not a television remote controller with M&Ms. It’s the cookie version of that.
That’s right: this is a cookie baked in the shape of a remote, and frosted to have buttons look just like a real one.
A lot of the magic is due to edible markers. And guess what?! They’re in stock at Michael’s.
Doing it yourself often involves wood or pallet upcycling. Well, how can we use that for DIY Father’s Day gift ideas?
I’m thinking a tie rack. All you’ll need is some sanding and staining, then a bunch of evenly-spaced nails.
Accents like that top piece need a brad nailer, but even that’s a pretty simple step.
There’s nothing manlier than eating really spicy food. At least, that’s the impression I get from most of the males I eat with.
We’ll run with it, and make some hot pepper oil for Daddy.
These require a nifty glass jar, 15-20 dried ornamental peppers, and about a cup of oil. Slit the peppers to expose their seeds, drop them in the jars, and dump oil in.
Easy, right?

If there’s one constant in my dad’s closet, it’s button-up shirts. Years of working in an office will do that to a guy.
In terms of Father’s Day presents, I get the idea I need to not ever buy him dress shirts again.
Then, I saw this pillow idea. These are slipcovers made from used shirts. Used. shirts. Now we can be crafty and resourceful.
You know, my dad’s really okay with ANYTHING as long as it’s edible. And if it’s chocolate-related.
I can’t be satisfied with just handing the man a candy bar, though, so I thought slipping it into a bouquet was clever.
I think this would be even better with a cuter pot; say, like a terra cotta one with that spongy green stuff.
Did you know that skinny ties have made a comeback? Yeah, I was trying to avoid that one, too.
Since my husband doesn’t seem to want to hide with me, maybe I’ll make him one. All I need is fabric, right?

This mobile idea is one of the best Father’s Day gifts kids can make. I know; I made one at school when I was little.
The cool thing is that it’s really inexpensive, and uses recycled parts. All those plastic circles are made by cutting clean plastic containers with a 1-1/2″ diameter circle punch.
Kiddos can color whatever they want with permanent markers, then a responsible party can thread string through the tops of each. Each string is then attached to a central ring, and hung with strong cord.
Besides skinny ties, my hubby is a sucker for brownies. Many guys are.
In fact, I’ll bet you could forego any expensive wall-sign from the craft store and just slip the man a plate of these. They’re caramel crunch, for Dad’s sake.
Their super-secret secret is a caramel topping that gets dumped on top of the pan of brownies before they cool all the way.
Does your man like games? Well, how about a giant version of Jenga?
Kids of all ages like this basic stacking game, and it’s very easy to make. As is obvious once you think about it, the pieces are same-sized blocks of wood.
You can even paint them all awesome-like, or write special notes on each.
Speaking of awesome, I think Dad needs superhero bookends.
Brush up on your X-ACTO knife skills in foam, then pick up some basic metal bookend bases at the store.
A few printouts and a lot of cuts later, and you’ll be ready to save the day.
Whatever you might end up getting, it’s going to need wrapping. Want a quick, cheap idea for a gift bag?
Check these beauties out. They’re bags that look like a shirt and tie.
The bonus part? They’re just paper.
