If your family does Thanksgiving like mine, chances are there are oodles of food leftover after the main event. From turkey to pie, we almost always make more than we can eat in one sitting. Which sometimes causes a little bit of a problem: what do you do with all the leftovers? Yes, you can make turkey sandwiches until Christmas or you can send those leftovers home with your family and friends! This works especially great if you’re doing a Friendsgiving. This way, everyone has food for a few days and no one gets stuck with half of an uneaten turkey. Now you can absolutely send the leftovers home in Tupperware or old cottage cheese containers, but no one really wants the burden of returning dishes afterward. My suggestion is to send those leftovers home in festive Thanksgiving take home bags that celebrates the season and is recyclable to boot. If you’re wanting to do the same, here’s the scoop:
DIY Thanksgiving Take Home Bags That Are Festive
Materials
Idea 01: Leftover Labels
This is a super easy DIY that pairs well with the paper bags. You can print off one of the quotes below on white paper, mount it on construction paper, and then glue or staple it to the front of the paper bag with some raffia tied to the handle. It’s simple but effective and elegant.
If you have a steady hand when it comes to lettering, you can also use the metallic markers above and freehand the image directly onto the bag. You could also utilize some stamps like these and pair them with embossing powder to get an elegant look.
Idea 02: Thankful Bags
Another option for sending your leftovers home is to have guests (or their kids) decorate a bag by writing things they are grateful for on them. Not only is it a good reminder of the reason for the season, but it can look pretty darn cute when paired with a piece of pie or slice of turkey.
If you want to take this a step further, gather fallen leaves from your yard or neighborhood and have guests write their blessings on the leaves. Then either glue them to the paper bags or tie them on with a length of raffia.
Idea 03: Turkey Treat Bags
This is a great DIY to involve kids in! Start by having them trace their hands onto a few different colors of construction paper. Next, cut the hand prints out and glue onto the paper bag. Then cut out a shape for the body, a triangle for the beak and throw on a set of these googly eyes and you’re set!
If the thought of creating bags for leftovers is overwhelming, then maybe try grabbing a set of these pre-made boxes and cartons. They are sure to be a hit at your next Thanksgiving get together! Hopefully, these easy take-home bags will add a little something extra to your holiday and let your guests know how much you appreciate them. Happy Holidays!
