Unfortunately, I have personal experience with planning a Halloween party as a room parent.
I know the anxious thoughts of, What if kids have allergies? Or, How can I keep this simple, and still entertain all the kids?
Mostly, I want to impress the other parents who show up to help.
I need to find games, treats, and stations that say, “This mom is super creative,” instead of, “I came from the dollar bin five minutes ago.”
So before entering panic attack mode, check out these clever Halloween party ideas.
Let’s start with a simple, inexpensive game: Pin the Face on the Pumpkin.
First, it’s really taping the face on. No one’s trusted kids with actual pins for a few decades now.
Second, you can use a real or fake pumpkin for this -or even a giant picture of a pumpkin.
And for a final tip, think how easy it would be to jazz this up for that trying-to-show-off problem we all have. You could do lifelike body parts, fun accessories, or hair.
Now, onto my favorite part of parties: the food.
Want to give the kids a little something to hold their treats? You can even make it Halloween-themed!
Just be sure no one’s candy flies away. That would be bat.
Feeling too wrapped up in all the planning?
Here is a cute idea you can throw together with a quick trip to the store for cupcakes, a tube of frosting, and candy eyes.
Have a bit more time? Make the cupcakes yourself and tube homemade frosting for the eyes and wrappings.
Your kids will say, “Thanks, (Room) Mummy!”
I’m a fan of pumpkin ideas that can be done without carving them yet.
After all, those suckers have about two days outside before they rot. Plus, gutting and cutting is messy.
Try this idea from No Biggie, or use any other cutout Halloween shape. I’m pretty sure these are just taped on.
Bat cones or witches’ fingers are fun for storing candy, but take a bit of time.
Would you like just a step above stuffing them all in a bag? Try Petit Elefant‘s ghost bag idea.
These are literally paper bags, googly eyes, and ribbon.
Spooky, simple, super cute.
I think I’ve found my new favorite planner over at One Charming Party.
Thinking about a scientist theme? Well, you’ve got the theme and rotating stations DONE.
Teach the kiddos about non-Newtonian fluid (goo), balloon popping, wizards vs. muggles, and “magic” popcorn.
Paper bags are now my universal crafting item.
Just look at how great these spooky puppets turned out!
You’ll need paints and paper accessories, then the kids can make these as scary or happy as they’d like.
All right, people. We need another game. How about Jack o’Lantern Matching?
Using the almighty power of felt, children can arrange and rearrange different faces for their pumpkins.
To make the game, just throw together some random faces and take pictures. Then, hand each player a picture with a few (or just those) shapes.
Get creative with paper bags and come up with your own Halloween party ideas.
I like activities that can be simple or complex, and still turn out great.
The Idea Room suggests these Play Dough creatures for just that. Make the dough yourself; or grab some pre-made, and pop some of those silly Halloween faces on them.
Try this Make and Takes idea for a monstrously marvelous table decoration: green blobs.
Googly eyes are going to be another staple for this Halloween. These are literally a corn syrup and food coloring in a jar, with eyes floating on top.
The best part about this pop-up haunted house idea is how creative the kids can get with it.
What if they don’t want a haunted house? What if they want an apartment, or something bright pink and yellow?
Two quick cuts in folded paper give you the starting format, then the kids can take it from there. You can even throw in some die cut house parts like windows and doors for a younger class.
Paste the finished domiciles onto a folded construction paper for the full card idea Make and Takes suggests. Of all the Halloween Party ideas in this article, this one is sure to be a sucess.
As soon as I searched for Halloween party ideas and saw these, I was in love.
Who doesn’t want to make a glowing spiderweb ball?
